Nearly a decade ago I lost a lot of weight. I wasn't exactly dieting, but there was a lot of exercise, and I think there were hormonal surges, I acted sort of manic, and there was hair shedding. I shed hair like crazy. My carpet was covered in a carpet of my own hair, and so was my car. I just pulled out gobs of it all the time, and then it would still come out all the time. I was concerned on a vanity point - I love having a lot of hair although it makes many styling matters impossible it is an exotic thing about me that I like and others envy.
Well, it's happening again. This time there's no mania, no hormone surges, and no exercise, but there's hair everywhere. Inconvenient when you're prepping food to find a hair on your hands, and I'm constantly having to pick it out of my cleavage.
Could this be something that happens after several months of "calorie deficiency" like a diet? Are any of the rest of you out there who have maybe lost about 50 pounds shedding a lot of hair?

Oh, interesting about the hair! I noticed a bit of breakage at the hairline on my forehead 2 months ago and was getting concerned, I now have new whispy regrowth, but other than that, my hair looks in good condition. When I started my diet, I too was under a lot of stress.
I take a multivitamin and Omega 369 and try to eat healthily. I try to wash it as little as possible, although that is not easy.
A friend of mine went really thin on top when she went through the meno, so hormones do have a lot to play. She got some special creams from the doctor and it is looking back to normal now.
((hugs)) hair is a big thing to us girls!
I am having the same problem - my hair is falling out like crazy!
I had quite the opposite, my hair is usually very dry and crazy curly. At the height of my healthy eating, it grew like crazy and was much healthier. I also noticed a huge difference in my nails too. Interesting observation.
Crys - I learned that pregnant women's hair follicles lock into the growth stage during pregnancy, making their heads rich with hair. I wonder if your hair's change coincides with your pregnancy, rather than healthy eating? Apparently, 3 months after childbirth, they shed a lot, too.
Hey Hallie, this was months before the pregnancy. This was May/June and my hair was growing faster than my hair dresser can cut it. I've heard you good great hair, skin and nails during pregnancy - so far, no such luck! Are you taking a good multi-vitamin?
